Machangulo Beach Lodge / Lodge Photography
Machangulo Beach Lodge is located in southern Mozambique, just opposite the well known island of Inhaca. The Lodge is just over an hours boat ride from Maputo, offering a scenic ride in good weather, from being able to take in the sweeping views of Maputo to the tranquil island settings of Inhaca as you approach your island destination. Although the Lodge is actually situated on the main land, one always feels as though you are on an isolated island as there are few people in the area, other than the local fishermen from the nearby village of Santa Maria. The stunning channel that presents itself in front of the Lodge is idyllic, providing rich fishing action and even an exciting drift dive or two.
The main features I was tasking to shoot was to shoot was on the activities side, and in particular, the underwater diversity offered in the area. Within 5min boat ride there is a diverse and alive secluded reefs in the shelter of the bay, allowing easy access and relaxed diving conditions. The only down side is it is very tide dependent, only being able to dive at high tide, when the clean water comes in giving enough depth and reasonable visibility to have a enjoyable dive. The reefs themselves are amazing, plenty of life. Unfortunately we were unable to get out to the deep water dive spots but hopefully on the next trip we will be able to explore more on that side.
As we had some bad weather over the trip, there was time to cover various other aspects of the Lodge including some of the awesome menu they dish up, plenty of seafood with some great puddings. No doubt, prawns are always lingering so a great prawn salad was a treat!
A great Lodge, awesome position, fantastic staff, all relate to a great African and Mozambican experience with some water activities thrown in!
