Lodge & Hotel Photography for 2018
2018 proved to be a great year when it comes to showcasing great Lodges and Hotels around Africa.
The year started with a family trip to Rocktail Bay, shooting for Wilderness Safaris. The Coastal Forest Reserve has to be one of my special places in South Africa. Quiet, few people, great beaches, incredible diving, and now, something new, scorpion trails at night with infra-red torches. Created some amazing images for their marketing, and the family had a great trip as well …..
From one great seaside trip to another! Seychelles, outer islands, Alphonse Island! Known for its fly-fishing, GT’s, Bones, Triggerfish and Permits … the bluewater fishing does not disappoint either! But besides the fishing, this is an incredible place to visit, with outstanding diving, snorkelling or simply just chilling around the pool. They have recently changed their branding to incorporate a series of Islands, and my hotel photography forming the centre points of many a page online and in print – for more, visit Blue Safaris.
Then, my first trip to Rwanda, to carry out another hotel photography assignment, this time shooting for Onomo Hotels, with they latest addition being Onomo Hotel Kigali. Great position in the city, close to city centre and the local attractions. Unfortunately I did not get to see the gorillas but I did get a little time to explore the City. The Genocide Museum, for me, was an eye-opener and a healthy reminder what a cruel species we are.
Zambia is always one of my favourite countries to visit. Four Lodges for some Lodge photography sessions, 1 in the Kafue National Park, 1 in South Luangwa National Park and 2 in the Lower Zambezi National Park. The weather did not treat us too well during the first half of the trip, with few sunsets, but plenty of cloud. This made things tough, but we managed to eek out some great images.
The final part of the year was dedicated to more sporting images, with a short trip to Cape Town to do some Hotel Photography for AHA.
