Semonkong Lodge Photography

Lesotho is a country which I have had little chance in exploring. Hence when I got the opportunity to go shoot the Semonkong Lodge, as well as all the activities, I grabbed at it with both hands.

As I know little about the area, other than Lesotho has rather high mountains, I was amazed to see the beauty when I arrived. An incredible place, with some much character in the surrounding hills, not to mention the Gorge. The Maletsunyane Gorge is just an amazing sight to behold, never mind the waterfalls therein.

Semonkong Lodge itself is perfectly situated on the river just on the outskirts of town. To sit on the verandah outside the Duck and Donkey restaurant and watch the busy life of the passing trade is just amazing in itself. Donkeys loaded with everything from wood, to bush to drinks, slowly making their way back and to town with their hauls, oblivious of the watching eyes which enjoying and ice cold Maluti beer and the great food prepared by Chef David.

Then the highest abseil in the world, from the top of the Maletsunyane Falls to the bottom, measuring 210m. If you thought the abseil don is hectic, try the walk out of there! Enough to wear down the legs and certainly build up a thirst. But what an experience, certainly something for the bucket list. Bu this is not the only activity on offer, their fly fishing is world class, from local fishing to multi-day excursions into the surrounding hills in search of brown trout is enough to satisfy any fly fishermen.

Thanks to Armelle and Jonathan for being such awesome hosts and assisting with all aspects to get the photos we needed!
