Complimed Midlands Ultra Tri-Series

The CompliMed Midlands Ultra Tri-Series turned out to be a scorcher … 34 degrees greeted the competitors when they got to the run section of the race – absolutely gruelling!!! Many dropped out at this point, feeling the strain of the heat. The heat at the front was also obvious – Stuart Marais blazed a trail to the win with blistering speed on the bike and run, to win the race by a big margin. The ladies race was more exciting, with Caroline Koll lying fourth going into the run but, using her favourite discipline to to reel in her competitors, took the winning line ahead of Corinne Berg.

The day started out with perfect conditions for the race, even showing possibilities of rain. But the sun soon popped out from the clouds and made the conditions even tougher. This was the first Triathlon I have covered and thoroughly enjoyed it. Nice to be able to shoot different disciplines in one race. One always wishes there was more time to cover the smaller things, but the race moved at a fast pace and was not easy to shoot amongst the traffic on a busy Sunday in the Midlands (no road closures).

Well done to all the people who completed. Really hectic conditions – one lady ay the end said to me “I don’t know if I should just cry!” …
