The 2015 edition of the Drak Challenge was an exciting one, indeed. The water levels were touch and go but finally the decision was given to start at the normal day 1 start, at Castleburn! Great excitement for all but there was still a bit of concern lingering in the air as to whether there was indeed enough water to carry the paddlers downstream to the finish. The frantic start set the pace for the rest of the race.  With Hank, Andy and Lance setting the pace from the beginning, they were first through Pines and then down to Toilet Bowl!

Trish Bahlmann, an ambassador for The Original Getfit Challenge, had a great year in 2014, recording numerous firsts in races such as the Three Falls Trail Run, Mont-Aux-Sources 50km Trail, Golden Gate Challenge (3 day stage race) and most notably the Lesotho Ultra Trail, where she beat some of her biggest rivals. Recently I was asked to cover a new initiative created by Wade Krieger, based on the Surf Ironman concept which is hugely popular in Australia. Why Ocean Heroes - well these elite group of athlete's have strong ties to the Ocean, being volunteer lifesavers for one, but also while competing, raising money for 3 major causes, clean oceans, water safety and youth development. An elite group of surf athlete's were gathered and 4 days of competition was set aside on Umhlanga main beach. Another edition of the Ozzie Gladwin, this time the K1's are out and getting some readiness for the upcoming paddling season. Dusi 2015 is a singles year so all the contenders were out, stretching their legs and arms in anticipation for a tough season ahead. All the favourites were on the starting line, except for possible Lance Kime, the last K1 winner. But Sbonelo Khwela, Andy Birkett and Thulani Mbanjwa were in the mix and through down the gauntlett from the start.
