The following options are available to a client wanting a web designed and development:

1. STANDARD HTML WEBSITE
This is a basic website between 1 to 5 pages with no active content or flash banners….

2. ADVANCED HTML WEBSITE
This is an HTML website (6 – 12 pages, and then 13+ pages) which is developed around the basic HTML backbone but include content developed out of flash or javascript. This includes flash galleries, flash menus, javascript menus, flash banners, and all other interactive content which adds to the user experience.

3. TEMPLATE-BASED WEBSITE
If you are in a hurry and not worried about using a template, this may be your option or you found a template design you particularly like but do not know how to customize it, this would be the option for you.

There are a wide range of templates available on the web. Straight HTML web templates will be charged differently from flash templates.

4. CMS WEBSITE
Content Management System (CMS) basically allows the website owner to manage their own content on the website without having to involved the services of a developer. CMS websites have a front-end (what you see on the World Wide Web) and a back-end (what is used to make changes to the website. The back-end is access controlled with a username and password and basically allows full access to most aspects of the website.

My choice of CMS software is WordPress which allows for a wide range of development options from a basic website, to a basic blog, to a website which incorporates a blog, and then onto more advanced websites with e-commerce. Having control over your own website is the best option, and it comes with a very easy to understand control panel.
