Kitesurfing the easterly’s

Kitesurfing the easterly’s

I rallied the guys together from Ocean2Air one morning when the Easterly was blowing. We headed down to Kite Beach and the surf looked great! I always find it deceiving when standing up on the grassy banks and looking at the surf – today it did not look big, but manageable. Damn, was I in for a surprise.

I hit the surf and started shooting. Battled to get out as it is not easy swimming with a large housing through large surf! Yes, it was definitely bigger than I thought! Rob came to me and said he would drag me out with his kite, which worked like a bomb. Finally I was out past backline and now waiting for the guys to do their thing around me. The swell picked up and it was cooking on the incoming tide. All was going well until one of the guys did the unthinkable and dropped his kit into the sea. I tried to swim and grad his board which then ended up with me in the break zone, getting dumped, lost his board and cracked my eye on the camera housing! Took a breather on the beach, and then headed back into the shorebreak.

We managed to get some rad images. in between getting nailed by huge bluebotttles! But was well worth it at the end of the day! Will do this again …
