Dusi Canoe Marathon 2016 Teams: Cana Peek & Kyeta Purchase
With a little under 5 weeks until the 2016 FNB Dusi Canoe Marathon, the major players are starting to up the ante and get their training into full swing. Over the next couple of weeks, I will try catch-up with a number of these teams and see how things are going and get some snaps of them in action ….
Ladies Teams: Cana Peek & Kyeta Purchase
This is a relatively new team on the water, having come together at the beginning of this river paddling season. Both accomplished paddlers in their own right, with Cana coming a close second in last year’s Dusi to Laura O’Donoghue, and a well paddled third in the Hansa Fish River Canoe Marathon. Whereas this is Kyeta’s maiden Dusi, she is a highly accomplished paddler and no stranger to winning, having won the Junior Girls’ South African Surfski Championships, and also taking the Junior Sportswoman of the Year award at the recent KZN Sports Awards.This team linked up at the last Marathon World Champs and have been training together since. They combined well in the 2015 Umpetha Challenge taking second and in the 2015 Ozzie Gladwin taking a good third place! One can only assume by the time Dusi arrives, they will definitely be challenging for a podium position!
